This is my 2nd Grade physical education class taking time out for a Health lesson. They are learning about the brain. They are seated with their reading partners and working on an interactive animation which explains all of the different parts of the brain.
Here is one of my 2nd grade students performing a jumping and landing activity using a springboard. This is during our gymnastics, rolling and tumbling unit.
In our 2nd grade Health classes, we finished up our nutrition unit by creating our own MyPlates. My students created their own individual plates illustrating the meals they had for dinner the night before. Each color they used represents the colors of MyPlate.
My 2nd graders just finished our germ unit. One of our experiments was to see how fast germs can spread. In our experiment we used cinnamon and olive oil.
I asked for volunteers and I poured the oil on the palm of their hands then sprinkled the cinnamon. I then asked them to shake hands with the rest of the class. They predicted if the cinnamon would spread to the rest of the class.
My 2nd graders just finished our skin unit. Our project was to make a touch and feel book as skin relates to our sense of touch.
We used pom poms to demonstrate the soft feel.
We used tin foil to demonstrate the smooth feel.
We used sandpaper to demonstrate the rough feel.
This is our cover page to our books.
This is my second grade Health class. We have been studying the brain and how it works. In this lesson we took advantage of the nice weather and went outside. The students were learning the two parts of the brain the cerebrum and the cerebellum. As the students participated they used their cerebellum part of their brain to kick a ball in between two cones. If they missed they had to use their cerebrum part of the brain to think about how to get it through the cones.
My 2nd Graders created hand turkeys during Thanksgiving week. It fit in with our Nutrition Unit. I asked them to label the feathers with foods they were going to eat for Thanksgiving.
My 2nd graders once again made a touch and feel book. This book was made during our unit about skin. They used 3 different touch materials to describe rough, smooth and soft.
